Cookie Policy

How RemoteViewer uses cookies and similar technologies.

Last updated: 18 August 2026

1. About this Cookie Policy

This Cookie Policy explains how RemoteViewer uses cookies and similar technologies when you use the RemoteViewer website and customer portal.

This policy should be read together with the RemoteViewer Privacy Policy, which explains how we process personal information more generally.

2. What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small piece of information stored on your computer, phone, tablet or other device when you use a website or online service.

Cookies can be used for purposes such as maintaining a secure login session, remembering technical information or enabling functionality that depends on recognising the same browser or installation on a later visit.

3. How RemoteViewer currently uses cookies

RemoteViewer currently uses cookies required for customer-portal authentication and trial-management functionality.

The current RemoteViewer implementation does not rely on advertising cookies or behavioural advertising trackers as part of the core RemoteViewer portal functionality.

Cookies used by RemoteViewer.

The following cookies are currently created by the RemoteViewer customer portal.

Cookie Purpose Duration Type
RVPORTALSESSID Maintains your authenticated RemoteViewer customer-portal session after you sign in. It allows the portal to recognise the same authenticated browser while you move between portal pages. Up to 24 hours, refreshed during continued authenticated use. Strictly necessary
rv_trial_installation Stores a randomly generated RemoteViewer installation identifier used to manage free-trial eligibility and reduce repeated or abusive trial registrations from the same installation. Up to 1,825 days (5 years). Service / trial management

5. Customer portal session cookie

The RemoteViewer customer portal uses the RVPORTALSESSID cookie when an authenticated portal session is created.

The cookie is required so that RemoteViewer can recognise your authenticated session while you use protected areas of the customer portal.

The current portal configuration gives the session a 24-hour lifetime and refreshes the cookie while an authenticated session remains active.

6. Trial installation identifier

RemoteViewer uses the rv_trial_installation cookie to store a randomly generated identifier associated with an installation using RemoteViewer trial functionality.

The identifier is used to help determine whether an installation is eligible for trial entitlements and to reduce repeated use of trials in a way that circumvents RemoteViewer subscription requirements.

The current cookie lifetime is 1,825 days, equivalent to approximately five years.

7. Cookie security

RemoteViewer applies security attributes to its portal cookies to reduce unnecessary exposure of cookie values.

Current RemoteViewer portal cookies are configured with HttpOnly protection and SameSite=Lax. When the portal is accessed securely over HTTPS, cookies are also configured for secure transmission.

8. Necessary cookies

Some cookies and similar technologies are required for a website or online service to provide functionality specifically requested by the user or to operate essential service functions.

Where RemoteViewer relies on an applicable legal exception for necessary storage or access technologies, those technologies can be used without optional-cookie consent. We will still explain their use through this policy.

9. Optional cookies

If RemoteViewer later introduces optional technologies such as advertising, behavioural tracking or other technologies that require consent, we will provide the appropriate information and controls before those technologies are used.

Where consent is required, optional technologies will not be activated solely because a visitor continued browsing the website.

10. Third-party services

RemoteViewer may use third-party services such as Stripe for payments and Microsoft or Google where you choose those providers for authentication.

When you leave RemoteViewer for a third-party website or interact directly with a third-party service, that provider may use its own cookies or similar technologies subject to its own privacy and cookie practices.

11. Managing cookies in your browser

Most browsers allow you to view, remove or block cookies using the browser’s privacy or site-data settings.

You can therefore remove RemoteViewer cookies from your device using your browser controls.

Blocking or deleting cookies that are required for authentication or other essential RemoteViewer functionality may prevent parts of the customer portal from working correctly. Deleting the trial installation cookie does not necessarily restore eligibility for another RemoteViewer trial because trial eligibility may also be recorded server-side.

12. RemoteViewer application authentication

RemoteViewer desktop and mobile applications may use application authentication tokens or locally stored identifiers rather than normal browser cookies.

These allow an authorised RemoteViewer installation to maintain or resume an authenticated application session.

RemoteViewer stores a cryptographic hash of supported application session tokens server-side rather than storing the usable application token itself. Further information about authentication information is provided in the RemoteViewer Privacy Policy.

13. Changes to this Cookie Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy when RemoteViewer changes, when new website or portal functionality is introduced or when applicable legal requirements change.

The date shown at the top of this page indicates when this policy was last updated.
